I have studied in Karolinska Institute as a visiting scholar supported by the State Scholarship Fund of China for nearly one year. During the time I took part in the project named “The functional characterization of the ubiquitin and ubiquitin-like molecule regulated signaling in Epstein-Barr virus infected cells”and detected CdtB gene from clinical samples. I amplified CdtB gene of H. hepaticus by PCR from partial clinical samples, which has been further confirmed by sequencing. In addition, I presented a paper about therapeutic tumor vaccine from Cell in Journal Club of our group, listened to KI cancer retreat, the Nobel Lectures for Physiology or Medicine, KI Discovers seminars and many other practical workshops. At the same time, I participated in group seminar which held twice a week. I think the experiences will help me to expand my outlook and will benefit my future research work in China.
On the other hand, my research work in China went on well during the period. The residual experiments of the project “In vitro anti-influenza A H1N1 effect of Fineleaf Schizonepeta Herb iodand trans-3-Phenylacrolein and antiviral research on Toll-like
receptor signaling pathway” (No. 30973923, 2010.01-2012.12, supported by the National Science Foundation of China) have been finished by my students, including detection of TRAF,IRAK4, TLR3/7 and IFN-β by qPCR; IRF3 by western-blot and IFN-α, IFN-β, IFN-γ by
ELISA. I wrote and submitted the plan of my new project “Establishing AN molecular model
for high-throughput screening anti-herpes virus extract of Chinese herbal drugs” (No.
81173637, 2012.01-2015.12, 1.16 million of CNY supported by the National Science
Foundation of China and my college matching Fund), then I arranged some preliminary experiments. During this term,two papers of mine have been published in Chinese core journals; one as the first author entitled “The differential expression of HSV-1 UL-12 gene in E. coli BL21 and E. coli Rosetta”, published in 2012 first issue of West China Journal of
Pharmaceutical Science; the other as the corresponding anthor entitled “Exploration of teaching reformation of Medical Microbiology”, published in 2012 second issue of Basic Medical Education.
In September of 2011, I was engaged as a commissioner of the Clinical Microbiology
Division of Chinese Society for Microbiology from 2011-09 to 2016-08. In addition, I was appointed as a full professor and tutor for graduate at Chengdu Medical College at the end of 2011. I was invited as a peer interviewer of the National Science Foundation of China on Chinese Medical Sciences in April of 2012.
As a visting scholar outside alone, I try to equip myself in lonely life with homesickness even if I met some difficult, especially in English commuication. I wrote and modified my English manuscript entitled “Creating Screening of Inhibitors of Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 Alkaline Nuclease for molecular model”. Under the instruction of my advisor Professor Maria,
I wrote a research protocol entitled “Inhibitory Effects of compounds from Chinese herbs on the Epstein-Barr Virus Lytic Cycle”, But unfortunately I didn’t performed correlative experiments because the National Institute for the Control of Pharmaceutical and Biological Products cannot supply standard compounds beyond mainland China.
Coming to Sweden and studying in Karolinska Institute for one year is the most precious
experience of my life.
